Break

Over break I went to New York and went down to times square. When I was down there I thought what New York would look like if they took all the advertising down like they did in Saul Paul in the movie. I thought that taking all the advertising down would change New York completely. The people in the movie said that Saul Paul looked and was cleaner, but the businesses had trouble putting their names out to the public. For New York I feel like it would look cleaner and the businesses wouldnt have that hard of a time putting their name out, because New York is so Famous. New York would look scary at night with no lights, because at night the whole state is lit up. Without all the lights maybe New York wouldn't be so famous, because it wouldn't be the city that never sleeps.

Question 9

Yes the new media is corrupting the language, but not the way we communicate. The new media is ruining the correct way to speak and write language. The new media has created short hands for words like lol, btw, and ttyl. Also it now has shorten words like u, y, and b4. These short hands show up in formal essay ruining the formal language. Some might argue that the world is evolving so the language has to evolve and that is what is happening. The new media has enhanced and evolved the way people communicate though. With social networks, internet and smart phones communication from around the world has become a lot easier. It saves times and money. Also the new ways to communicate have killed older ways of communication like, pay phones and mail to an extent thanks to mobile phones and email.

Question 12

I believe that language does define are identity because it is how we represent our selves to others. Also my identity has nothing to do with my ancestry, because I don't speak Norwegian. It only identifies that I am Part Norwegian. Language and nationality are often related, but not necessarily correct.you could be Spainish and speak Korean, that doesn't mean you identify yourself as Korean. Language is a way to express yourself and the way you expess yourself is how you create your identity. It's how you show yourself through spoken language and body language. You can identity yourself by your ancestry but the language you speak s how you really identify yourself

Question 13

I do think that beliefs influence language, but not every language. For the Greek and Roman gods are very similar except in there names. They have names in the language of the believers. Zeus is the Greek god name and the Roman name is Jupiter. This shows that the beliefs are influenceing the languages. Most of the languages are not influenced by beliefs. For example catholicism and Protestant are two languages similar, but have believers who use the same language. Even if the language of the believers are different the names of the god and his followers are the same. They just have different explanations for what happened.

Question 10

I think that all languages should be preserved and saved from extinction. Losing a language is losing a culture. Language is a huge part of any culture and having that language gone destroys that cultural. For example, Latin is considered a dead language if that language is lost think of all the history that will go with it. The only way a language can be lost is when it goes with people is death or the original language evolves and changes overtime. Also if the language is gone how would it be possible to understand texts from that culture and how they communicated. Yes languages do die overtime and it's simply because it wasnt needed or a culture was influence by other culture which proved dominate. The only way to preserve it is to have texts transalting and and guides to Learning that language.
